Márcia Clayton’s artwork is about time, sexuality and the feminine condition, where she uses mundane instruments to retain and tame its flux: tampax, hygienic pads, preservatives, silicon breast implants and surgical sewing thread. The artist shows these objects bluntly revealing the pulsing mechanisms of organic life.

In fact, it is in the contrast between this functional facet of the body and the intervention of man-made materials that we are confronted by the necessary strangeness of her work. Heir of a minimalism that chooses the sequence of the same forms, her work combines subjects mixed with flesh and blood as if they possessed the repetitive care of a sequence of mantras. They show us that beauty has its efficiency in the potency of an artwork.

Márcia Clayton fala do tempo, da sexualidade e da condição feminina através de instrumentos mundanos, utilizados para conter e domesticar seus fluxos: tampões, absorventes, preservativos, próteses que avolumam os seios, linhas de costura de uma cesariana. A artista escancara objetos que revelam os mecanismos de pulsão da vida orgânica.

De fato, é no contraste entre a vida bruta do corpo e as cuidadosas estratégias construtivas, que brota o estranhamento necessário para se deparar com o trabalho da artista. Herdeiras de um minimalismo que institui a seriação de formas, as obras combinam assuntos entranhados de carne e de sangue com o cuidado repetitivo de uma sequência de mantras. Comprovam que a beleza tem sua eficácia na potência de uma obra de arte.
